No matter how expensive your skincare products are, they do not work like magic and turn your face into a perfect, younger looking skin overnight. A skincare routine may sound like a strenuous process, but it is necessary for you to look and feel good.
Understanding your skin.
Finding the best skincare routine that works for you may seem like a continuous beauty journey. The first thing that you need to do before investing on these different skincare products is to understand your skin. Are you oily or dry skin type of person? Do you have dark-spots that you want to remove? Do you want you skin to be whiter or you want to maintain your fair complexion?
6 basic skincare products that you should have.
There may be a lot of different skincare routines for different skin types but there are five basic products that you should have in your beauty shelf.
-
Cleanser
Your cleanser is what you’ll use to wash your face and normally the first step of majority of skincare routines. Finding the right cleanser will depend on your skin type. If you have dry skin, you might want to consider a cleanser that is alcohol and fragrance-free. If your skin tends to be oily, you may look for an oil-free option.
-
Toner
The best way to apply your toner is with a cotton pad or cotton ball, right after you wash your face, while it’s still damp. Start with your neck, going upwards. But toner does not work for everyone. If you see any harsh reaction or irritation after use, you may take this step out of your routine.
-
Moisturizer
Moisturizer helps prevent your skin from drying out, keeping it hydrated. This hydration is what gives your face that smooth and radiant look. This step in your routine is one you don’t want to skip. It should be used every time you wash your face.
-
Sunscreen
The sun is the most harmful factor for your skin and the leading cause of skin cancer. That is why it is important to apply sunscreen everyday, even when it’s cold or raining, even if you’re covered up. Some moisturizers include SPF, but there’s no harm to double up with sunscreen.
-
Exfoliation
Exfoliation is best done after cleansing and toning but before applying your moisturizer. Depending on your skin type, and maybe the weather, it does not work for everyone. But if you suffer from blackheads and acne, exfoliation can be your best friend in removing dead skin and build-up.
-
Serum
This is an optional addition to your skincare routine but it works wonders in keeping your skin healthier looking. It contains ingredients that are good antioxidants preventing you from having wrinkles and other visible signs of aging.
Now that you know the basics, it is only a matter of time that you’ll see the results of your skincare routine. Having these products sitting on your cabinet won’t do the work. Make it a habit. Most importantly, do it for yourself.
