Preventing Dry Skin

  1. Warm Over Hot
  2. Be Gentle
  3. Ointment And Cream Over Lotion

We all have our own skincare routines which most of us strictly follow throughout the whole year. However, just as the weather changes, so should your skincare routine. Humid vs dry weather for instance, plays a huge role in the dryness of your skin. Yet, it can be humid for a few months and dry for the rest of the year. It depends on which part of the globe you are located but one thing is for sure, the weather can be unpredictable, and humidity is just one of the many factors to consider when tweaking and adjusting your routine.

There are many factors that can cause dry skin. There are internal factors like age, health and genetics. On the other hand, there are external factors like temperature and humidity. Whatever the cause is, there are different ways of preventing or minimizing the effects. Let’s check out some of these methods for a more optimal skincare routine that provides softer and supple skin year-round.

Warm Over Hot

We all know the pleasure of having that steamy shower after a day’s work. It might feel great but it is not recommended if you already have dry skin. Hot showers tend to strip away the natural oil from your skin that acts as a barrier. This oil is what locks in moisture to keep your skin smooth and moist. Go for warm showers instead without lingering for too long.

Be Gentle

If possible, wash with an oil cleanser or gentle soaps. Products with antibacterial components and deodorants can be harsh on the skin. Consider using a cleanser that contains ceramides as they help the skin in holding moisture. As for using peels, toners and alcohol-based astringents, go easy on them. The alcohol does not help in keeping your skin's moisture. Also when you exfoliate, do not scrub too hard. It can irritate your skin and cause it to thicken. Ivy Leaf® Skincare offers an Oil Foaming Cleanser that is gentle, and a Facial Scrubber that provides the perfect amount of pressure for gentle yet effective exfoliation.

Ointment And Cream Over Lotion

Go for ointments and creams as they are less harsh on the skin compared to lotions. Look for something that contains jojoba oil, olive oil or shea butter. When checking out the ingredients for a product, look for lactic acid, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, mineral oil and petrolatum. These ingredients will help soothe dry skin. Our Restorative Moisturizer is packed with shea butter and anti-aging humectants such as glycerin.
