Taking care of yourself is sometimes becoming your least priority especially when we already have a family or if we are  in a relationship. We are being forgetful of our own needs which occasionally result in having some insecurities and emotional meltdown. Knowing how much you are worth should be something you should start practicing.

It’s easier said than done, I know, because we can all be too busy caring for others. You have jobs you need to attend to, a family we are responsible for and sometimes we get all caught up and consumed with the technology to make time for ourselves. Worse of all, you might feel guilty of spending some me-time that you just forget about doing it at all.  But with the proper ways and means to show yourself some love and care, it could be and should be done.

Sleeping should be part of your self-care routine.

You may notice how much more impatient and cranky you are if you don’t have enough sleep. Sleeping should not just be measured on how long you sleep but also the quality of sleep you are getting.

Having a sleep routine can help you get more quality sleep. Your room should be the most comfortable part of your home where you are able to mellow out and forget everything outside the world for a short but quality time. Cozy up your room by lighting up some scented candles or oils, play some music that could calm your soul. Doze off into a deep slumber, tomorrow is going to be another day.

Alway remind yourself that you are doing all this for you  and you alone.

Feeding your body the right food is self-care.

You are what you eat. Everything you put inside your mouth and your gut have a significant impact to your health and well-being. You are not able to function well unless your body and mind feel strong and hearty. Take care of your body by choosing the right diet.

    Keeping yourself active is self-care.

Exercising daily is good for both your body and your mind. It can boost your mood and reduces stress and anxiety. You don’t need to hit the gym everyday or regularly to have an active lifestyle. You may do some daily brisk walking when doing some errands, do in-home yoga and or some sports activities like tennis. The most important thing is to create a routine that works for you and your time.

    Learn how to say ‘No’.

Never think that saying ‘No’ means you are being rude. Being unable to say ‘no’ can be too stressful and exhausting. We often feel compelled to agree to every request and favor and would rather just say ‘yes’ to everything spending all of our time and energy with these tasks, leaving no time for ourselves.

It may take a bit of practice, but once you learn how to politely say no, you’ll be able to spend more time for yourself and feel more empowered.

    Disconnect to reconnect with yourself.

Going out for the weekend to hit the beach or go hiking and nature tripping can be a life changer. You’ll feel more rejuvenated and rooted to yourself.  Put down your phone, look up to the sky. Get to know yourself more by veering away from your normal schedule, listen to the sound of nature, make yourself open to what the surrounding is ready to offer you.

    Read a book on self-care.

In a world where everything we do involves gadgets and the internet, it could be really challenging to give yourself time to read or even buy a book. Being able to read a book, especially about self-care, helps your learn more about how to properly take care of yourself without getting too distracted and always looking down your phone.

Go to the favorite corner of your house with the most comfortable chair, light aromatic candle beside you and start reading, take everything in and create your own world.

Sure, it does take a lot of practice to let go of your work computer or your household chores, but you’ll never know what you’re missing unless you start thinking of yourself more. Always remember that you deserve more time to care for yourself. Whatever self-care practice you do, the most important thing is that you feel good about it.
